Construction Team - Kudumbashree

The construction sector is one of the fastest growing sectors in the country as well as in Kerala. The role of women in the work force is approximately 51% in the sector. However, women are largely engaged in unskilled work as manual labour and skilled trades are still dominated by men. There is a huge gap between the wages of unskilled and skilled labour within the same sector. Keeping these factors in mind, interested Kudumbashree members are being provided skill training for various trades in the construction industry. This initiative aims to provide a sustainable income to women engaged in the sector. These trained women members will eventually be formed into All Women Community Construction Contractors groups at the block and urban local body levels in the state.
