DAY-NULM

The centrally sponsored scheme DAY-NULM was launched in Kerala to address problems of urban poverty and vulnerability. Kudumbashree is the nodal agency for the mission. NULM primarily aims at building strong grass root level institutions of the urban poor through social mobilization and enabling the urban poor to access gainful self employment or skilled wage employment resulting in significant improvement in their livelihood. Providing shelters equipped with essential amenities to the urban homeless and facilitating access to suitable spaces, institutional credit, social security and skills for employability are also salient features of the mission.  The project was launched at the national level in 2013 but the implementation process started in Kerala from May 2015. Presently, it is being implemented in the 14 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) of the state and Government of India has consented to extend it to the remaining 79 ULBs.
