Kudumbashree Mission

The State Poverty Eradication Mission (SPEM), popularly known as Kudumbashree Mission is the State government’s arm for poverty eradication under the Local Self-Government Department. The Mission has a Governing Body chaired by the Minister for Local Self-Government and an Executive Committee chaired by the Principal Secretary, Local Self-Government Department.

The Mission is the agency that promoted and supports the community network. It supports programmes in economic and social empowerment and works as an agency for enhancing women’s citizenship. The Mission provides policy support for the programmes and ensures convergence of the community network and local government institutions. It facilitated partnerships at the district and State levels.

The Mission structure consists of a State Mission and 14 District Missions. The State Mission in structured into three divisions – Livelihood Development, Organisation and Social Development, and Systems Support.

To eradicate absolute poverty in ten years through concerted community action under the leadership of local governments, by facilitating organisation of poor for combining self-help with demand-led convergence of available services and resources to tackle the multiple dimensions and manifestations of poverty holistically ’.
